Fastest linux dist for slow laptop?

Hello!

I'm trying to find the best suitable linux distro for my laptop. Right now i have Linux Lite and it's quite slow (faster than windows though ). Boot time takes up to 3 minutes (without grub) including GUI to load. When i'm browsing it's also very laggy.

Right now, linux lite run's 150 (excluding programs i installed) processes which i think it's a lot!!!

Take a look at my specs:
Code:

I installed Arch Linux with xfce and it's a lot faster!!! Boot time including log in it's 40 seconds! Also is not too laggy . But again i would like to hear your opinions.
Also since most popular packages are for debian/ubuntu arch linux makes it difficult to find and install some packages. But i'm not sure for installing debian. Will it be fast?

My recommendation goes to AntiX, been using it for years on slower laptops with 2GB ram.
https://antixlinux.com/

Others to check out are Tinycore & SliTaz - & if you are OK not to be Linux, try BSD, (my choice is OpenBSD, but it doesn't run on all equipment, so you'd need to check your hardware).

I agree on Antix.

Puppy Linux is another fast OS. I have antix and puppy running on an old compaq single cpu with 512mb ram. Debian Lxde edition also works great on there.

Then Antix it is! I will try both of them (Antix and Debian Lxde edition) and choose the fastest!

Some of the minimal distros could load to ram and make it about as fast as it could. The boot option may be toram or other phrases.

I'd choose debian with a window manager personally. But keep in mind you can go as light weight as you want for the de but that won't help with browsers using tons of ram these days. Just a fact of life. Unless you can find a lighter browser. They are where most of the ram use goes, at least on my laptop.

babaliaris,

Surely you must use antiX and support a fello countryman anticaptalista, its maintainer/lead developer, from Thessaloniki?

Seems like a good choice. If you want another one, try Slackware.

You install packages from source. You can extract source packages from Debian packages if this makes a difference.

Agree on Slackware !

If the hardware is a bit slow, don't choose KDE as VM, but Xfce or fluxbox, available out of the box.
