Elantech Touchpad Without xorg.conf

I am on Debian Sid.

Everything works except that I can't use the touchpad to simulate a left-click, and also the scrolling doesn't work.

I don't have an xorg.conf and I don't want to create one thinking it might interfere with hotplugging.

I have used gpointing-device-settings however that application claims tapping is enabled.

The same touchpad works on Arch and FreeBSD so I doubt it is a hardware problem.

What do you suggest I do?

Hi Majorix, welcome to LQ,

the template-configuration-files for the input-devices in X reside in /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/.
You should copy the file for synaptics (50-synaptics.conf on my system) into the /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ directory. You can then adapt the file to your needs, it will be recognized by the X-server when it starts.

You should also have a look at the "synclient" tool.

Markus
