Elantech Touchpad not recognized on Gigabyte Netbook

Hello,

I have a Gigabyte M1022M netbook and I was tried to run OpenBSD, Debian Linux as well Archlinux on it with a X-Server.
Everything worked great except the touchpad. It is an Elantech touchpad which should be supported by the Linux Kernel.

After some time I tried to find something like a version or something else to clearly identify the touchpad but the touchpad was not listed in the output of "dmesg". There was also no entry in /proc/bus/input/devices.

My question is now: If dmesg does not recognizes a hardware, such as my touchpad, there is no way of running it, isn't it?

Are you sure it really works? If it is functional, there is no reason it shouldn't show up in dmesg.

What does the command 'cat /proc/bus/input/devices' show?

My EeePC has an Elantech touchpad, you should see something like this in the output:

Yes I am sure. Currently is Windows XP (the OS which was pre-installed) on it because my mom is in hospital and she is bored all the time. So I can't access and give the exactly content of /proc/bus/input/devices.
There were 2 Power Button, 1 Standby, 1 „Macintosh mouse button emulation“, 1 LED (whatever...) and some more. But no Elantech that's why I'm so confused.

Yes! That is what I supposed because a friend of mine has an EeePC which shows this information.
Due to this I believe that it is not possible to run a different os than Windows on it. Please, I need a confirmation if dmesg really shows every working hardware inside a pc.
