Docking station - the most compatible

I have Dell Inspiron 1520 and I am looking for a docking station. I have two OS: WinXP and Fedora 9.

The problem is, of course, with its compatibility with linux. Which docking station may work without any problems on both OS? Where can I find drivers for it?

What do you think about this one?

Maybe I'm missing something totally obvious here, but what does that docking station give you that the laptop doesn't already have?

The docking station I have for my Dell C600 has PCI slots, another bay for removable drives, another video card and a few other things.

The one you showed is basically a USB hub and a stand, because you already have everything else it provides, an ethernet port, audio input and audio output ports.

Well... Two reasons:

1. monitor has a better position (it's higher)
2. you can use external keyboard, mouse, printer etc pluging only one cable

For me this is enough to buy it

I'm sure you could come up with some kind of stand that accomplishes, without the extra junk you don't need and it would certainly be cheaper than that thing.

Get a $20 powered USB hub, it will do the same exact thing.

To answer the initial question, if all you care about is the USB ports, you don't have to worry about drivers. Though the ethernet card and audio card are probably supported, they are just simple USB devices.
