Debain Lenny, Toshiba, LCD remains dim if booted on battery

Toshiba laptop, Debian Lenny.

If I boot the laptop on battery (no power plug) the LCD is dim (almost unreadable), I've unticked
system->preferences->power manager->dim LCD on battery

but the laptop still boots in a `dimmed LCD' mode.

Any ideas how to disable this dimming?.

Cheers,
Mike.

This gets you a couple of packages which might interest you:

Code:
apt-cache search toshiba

toshset - Access much of the Toshiba laptop hardware interface
toshutils - Toshiba laptop utilities
Also, check out this incredible reference regarding Portege.

Turns out that there are many things about Toshiba laptops which are unique.

This solves the problem: flip the lcd screen down to keyboard (`closed' position), plugin the ac cord, flip the lcd back upwards.
