Connecting projector to ThinkPad R61

Hi,

I have lenovo ThinkPad R61 laptop. I need to use it for presentations, however I have a problem with external projector. I have NVidia card with nvidia drivers. Now, I can connect external projector and using nvidia-setings application configure second display. What I want to achieve is displaying same thing on my laptop's LCD and projector. LCD runs at 1280x800, however external projector is capable only of 640x480 and that causes problems. In Windows in that situation desktop displayed on external is scaled down to projector's resolution, which is what I want, but no way I can achieve that on my linux (which is Suse 11.0, but I think it's not a distro-specific issue). The only thing I managed to do is displaying same thing on LCD and projector, but on the latter - since it has lower resolution - only part of desktop is displayed (that part moves with the mouse cursor, so it works as a zoom on a 1280x800 desktop).

Now, can anyone tell me how to scale down desktop displayed on external projector? I need it badly for my presentations and I have enough of making fool of myself ("Sorry guys, I have Linux - can't show you my presentation using my laptop")

Need to add a section in the xorg configuration file for the projector. There are a few howtos.

Thanks for reply!. I read the first howto and it didn't help. I'll check the second one as soon as I can (that is get access to projector at work), but at first glimpse it doesn't say anything about scaling down primary display to fit resolution on second display (I managed to set projector as primary display and set 640x480 resolution on it, but then I get extremely small desktop and that's definitely not what I want).
