I am trying to install SUSE 10.1 onto my laptop I have created a 10GB partition.
Booting from the DVD and CD produces the following:
1) Suse initial screen - Installation (no ACPI etc. makes no difference)
2) "Loading Linux Kernel"
3) Messages then "hardware detection" & "activating USB devices" but does
not seem to detect anything else.
4) "Could not find Suse Linux Installation CD - Activating manual setup"
5) Chose language and keyboard
6) Main Menu -> Sysinfo -> "No hard disk or CD-Rom drives have been
detected so far".
7) Installing "IDE generic host driver" makes no difference.
8) Swapping the DVD-drive makes no difference.
I have tried all the advice on different forums and nothing works. It is a new laptop and I have created a 10GB partition to load Suse 10.1 onto but without success. However when I go to Vista I can read the CD no problems. Please help as I need to use 10.1 for an assignment and it's driving me nuts. I have installed SUSE 10.1 using this discs successfully before on a desktop.

If you were trying opensuse 10,1 that is rather out dated now.
We are now at opensuse 11,1 .
So if it is opensuse with new computer try opensuse 11,1
Or do you mean Novell suse also known as SLED SLES .
Novell suse is based on opensuse but it is not the same
It is novel SUSE 10.1 and I have to use it for TAFE as this is the version they are using and for whatever reason it will not recognise my cd/dvd reader.
It's whatever the free one is, as it's TAFE that is using it and as well all know they have no money. So it would be opensuse and as usual TAFE if like a hundred versions behind the latest version, so I have no choice but o use 10.1 so if someone could tell me how I can manage to install it that would be great, as it's becoming quite urgent.
