Cheap(ish) Handheld?

I'm a college student (hence the Cheapish) but I've wanted to play with linux on a handheld computer for a while now. I've been browsing the internet, but a lot of the information out there seems somewhat dated. Can anyone reccomend for me a fairly cheap handheld computer that will run Linux reliably?

Also, I've heard stories that once you put Linux on a handheld, it is impossible to return to the 'native' OS. Is this true?

Check out linuxdevices.com, you might be interested in the Sharp Zaurus. I doubt it is impossible to restore the original OS on most handhelds.

Hi a good site for information is: www.handhelds.org. They have good information, instructions and software .
I have an older iPAQ 3630 that I run Linux on.

It is possible to restore your old OS if you save the image. In case you lose it and have an iPAQ here is a link for help and OS to restore. ftp://ftp.handhelds.org/feeds/wince/
