I don't know if this forum is active enough to get a reply... but here it goes.

This is about my hair. You see... my mom is always hasseling me to get a "cool" haircut. It's annoying. The way I see it is that if I get one of the "cool" haircuts, like the losers on those comedy shows like "Friends" and stuff, I would be makeing a false image of my inner self. Sort of.... I don't want some spikey little cute haircut, because I am not a cute spikey person. I look at myself as an intellectual. I enjoy philisophical and political debates. This is not a common thing in my age group (15, 16 in January). If I go and get some "cool" haircut I will feel really bad about myself. Maybe even sorry. Having the haircut I have now gives me a smart person look, at least I think so. I have a haircut alot like Linus Torvalds'. I didn't "steal" it from him though. I just want to be who I am. I don't want to go off like the people at school and get stupid little haircuts and look cute and stuff for girls and popularity or whatever. It feels like that would be living a lie. I don't know what to tell my mom. I have HAD the little stupid haircuts before. All full of jell, all sticky and cute. I don't like that. I have tried explaining to her that I don't want to get the stupid haircut, just a trim of what I have now. What should I do???

Someone please help me. (This is going on monthly (when my hair needs cutting, go figure.))

You want to be yourself. Nothing wrong with that. Tell your mom that it's too personal of an issue for her to impose her opinion on you. And stick to your guns.

Exactly how bad is she being? Does she insist on coming to the hairdresser's with you, or is it just a bit of nagging?

Just explain to her that you like it the way it is and, more importantly, you wouldn't be able to stand a "cool" haircut. Maybe the hairdresser could suggest something that you and your mother would both be happy with?

It's your head at the end of the day, so I wouldn't get anything done to it you aren't happy with.

Go to the hair dresser by yourself and choose how you want your hair trimmed.

Don't blame you. I've never been a big put things in my hair person. If your hair is like Linus I don't know what your mom's complaining about.
Maybe she's getting all motherly and thinking Your are going to move out in a few years or something. You aren't a first, last, or only child are you? Just keep in mind the jelly, spikey, metro-sexual hairdos are powerless if you don't put the junk in your hair.

Richey, she's not so bad. It's not every day or anything like that. Only when I need a haircut. It's kind of like a very severe nagging. She's showing me pictures from Vouge and stuff like that. "What about something like that? That's super cute." Blah blah blah. . . I have told her again and again that I don't want it. Now she's saying I should as a Christmas present. She just wants me to be a normal kid or something. I'm not weird or anything, I'm just not too social. I think she wants me to meet a girl and stuff. She thinks I look nerdy I guess.

Blinker_Fluid, the thing about Linus hair is that it looks a little bit dorky. It's the truth, I'm not being mean or anything. Hell, I have the same haircut! She's knows I'm not the kind of person to move out right away. I love my home. And that sticky jell is the worst thing. If you sweat a little it gets all over your face and stuff. It's horrible.

Well... I have gotten more replies than I ever thought I would. I thought for sure it would take a few days for just one. Thanks alot for the advice guys.

She very well might want you to get a "popular" haircut because she thinks it'll make you more popular or at least less different and so, at least in her simple opinion, happier.

Maybe if you explain to her exactly why you like the haircut and how popular >< happy for you. Tell her that the haircut you have and the way it's recognized makes you happy.

All about being happy man. Parents just want you to be happy. Happy Happy Happy.

yeah, i would say the same thing. if you'll stand your ground fiercley and defend your position, i'm thinking she'll stop nagging you about it.
