Caps lock on by default

Hi everyone.

I have just installed the latest release of Xubuntu onto my Asus netbook.

Generally I am rather pleased with it but there is one major niggle: It has a German keyboard. This isn't too bad as I can touch type fairly well but the system seems to boot with CAPS LOCK on.

For example I have to press the CAPS LOCK key (which looks more like a shift key judging by the symbol on it) in order to type in my password to log in. Then if I load anything like a terminal or text editor, again CAPS LOCK is back on and I have to manually switch it off.

I have already tried changing the keyboard settings via the GUI to "Asus Laptop" but sadly had no joy with this.

Has anyone come across this issue before.

I would be grateful for any advice.

Change the keyboard layout to UK. It doesn't really matter what is printed on the keys, only that the layout is correct, and not just the keyboard brand. At the bottom of the keyboard dialog, you can add and modify the layouts. Click on the Add button and add the English UK layout, then make it default.
