Cannot boot Eos

Hi, Firstly I hope I have this in the correct forum and thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to read this post. I have a dell Inspiron 6400 and have installed Elementary OS from a usb drive and it worked perfect. Then I installed tweaks and dark theme and changed a few things.... turned off shadows and animations to make it faster. Now when I try to boot it shows the dell logo then goes to a blank screen. I have tried all the key presses that usually work.. delete, F12 F10 F8 F2 shift.. nothing helps as I cannot even get the one time boot menu!!! I seem to remember having a similar problem with ubuntu a year or so ago and it being a problem with the graphics driver starting to early or something like that but I was able to call up the boot menu or grub to sort it out. But not being able to boot into anything makes it a hard thing to sort. Any ideas? Thanks.

these tweak tools are dangerous. don't use them.
i guess somewhere inside "a few things" you did this one extra thing that bombed your system.

things you can try:

- press shift during boot to get to grub menu, then boot into recovery mode and start troubleshooting.

- failing that, boot from some rescue cd - my old rescatux has proven helpful many times - and restore grub.

thanks for the reply. shift doesn't boot into anything and I am presuming rescatux needs to be booted from a cd or usb drive? problem being I can't get the one time boot menu or bios. it's just the dell logo then a blue bar for a second then blank screen.
