Recently I installed suse 9.3 on my PC. I couldn't connect to internet. I have U.S. robotics internal modem, Could anybody explain the steps needed for the internet configuration.
If I understood correctly, you have a 56k modem and not an ISDN or ADSL modem. So, the first thing is to make your modem visible by Linux. This means to install a driver for it. I think Yast is a very powerful and helpful tool, so it shouldn't be a problem. When you did this, decide which connection tool do you want to use.: kppp or kinternet. kppp is very powerful and advanced internet dialer program, so consider about using this. The kinternet is less powerful, but a little bit easier to configure. After you decided which one to use, just configure them with the help of khelpcenter (and the kppp/kinternet manual in there). The manuals are very clear so there shouldn't be any problems. If you still have something, just ask LQ. Good luck.
As U mentioned I have U.S. Robotics Dial-up 56k internal voice fax modem BUT in the CD came along with the modem I couldn't find the driver for suse 9.3. From(NET) where can I download the driver.
I find that kinternet is running. how to run/configure kppp using khelpcenter?
You can look for drivers here: http://www.usr.com/support/s-main-menu.asp . Since I don't know the exact model of yours, you should search. If here you can't find what you need, try here: http://www.google.com/linux In the khelpcenter you must find kppps application manual (application manuals -> internet -> kppp). There you can find everything you need to know about the configuration tabs, buttons, etc. being in kppp. Thats all. You know, khelpcenter is only a kind of manual search application, so it does not help to run other programs. Yeah, one more thing. It is very rare, that you will find a driver for linux on a hardware vendored CD.
My us robotics internel modem model is 2884B. Actually I searched for the driver, I couldn't find the same. Is it available on NET. If so, could U please send me the URL.
I found something for windows. If you need some extra app, for Win look here: http://www.usr-emea.com/support/s-pr...rec&prod=2884b
For Linux:
Well, these are not good news for you: Your modems chipset is not supported yet. I'm sorry. You can check the linux modem compatibility list here: http://www.devidal.tv/~chris/winmodems/pci_list.html
Maybe you should buy another modem according to to the list above (link). Sorry again.
