PPP authentication error and Getting some garbage from modem

Hi,

I try to connect net via USB modem using KPPP, my pppd daemon died unexpectedly. The ppp log says “Failed to authenticate ourselves to peer”. If I try to connect second time I get some garbage strings from modem. There is nothing in the PPP log even I didn’t get above failed to authentication message.

My modem is not activated by Internet provider. So I expected that Authentication error but why I am getting some garbage(I don’t know some strings) value from the modem in second and thrid times. If I reset my modem manually then I get that authentication error.

Is this garbage vaule is acceptable from modem after I getting the authentication error?

I am using Ubuntu Linux and kernel version is 2.6.24-19.

Thanks,
harini.

I can't tell what's happening from the information you posted. Your log file says "connection terminated" so presumably the modem should have been put into its waiting state. I can't see from this information why the modem would give you garbage.

Try checking your modem initialization strings. Also, see if any modem control strings are sent after a disconnect (usually not required unless the modem is buggy).
