Kernel Install Check

Hi, I think I just downloaded the kernel source and built it and then installed it. I think it all went well and I can boot into the new kernel.

But I dont want to think it all worked I want to verify it.

I did uname -r and it shows the new version, so this is why i think it worked

but i honestly, maybe i tried 10 times to finally get it done right, i tried a bunch of things on the way so I really want to make sure that it worked

so how can i verify that I actually succeeded at the end.

thanks a bunch in advance.

Try...
Code:
ls -aRl /boot | grep `uname -r`
...to verify the information. That's what I did when I was trying to configure the wireless card in the laptop. My system installed the kernel...less source...as update. If the version appears in System.Map or whatever, you may have been successful. Another means is to...
Code:
dmesg | grep `uname -r`
...because the system messages just might reveal whether it was successful. I DON'T KNOW if this is what you are looking for. Hope this helps
