detecting the desktop of the user


hello,

I coded a software,

I need to detect the desktop KDE? or Gnome? or else? of the user.
Could you please tell me how to do that?

Wink use w command

use w command that displays the who are all logged in currently.

Hello,

The "w" command does not bring information about the user's desktop.
It brings information as following : USER TTY FROM LOGIN IDLE JCPU and WHAT (path) but not information about the desktop used like KDE or Gnome.

All the more I am also looking for how to know which browser is used from the user.
