Your monitor didn't report its X- and Y-Size

Hi,

I have installed a new copy of SuSe Linux 9.1. I always get this error whenever I login: "Your monitor didn't report its X- and Y-Size". It prompts me to manually set it up. If I select 'yes', the screen turns black and the system does not respond. I have to restart it everytime. I also tried to set it up using sax2 but it just repeats the same. I tried from the Yast2 and the result was the same.

What could be the problem? Please help

I solved the problem this way on my computer:

I looked in my owner manual for the monitor and found that the screen size was 310mm by 230mm. I wanted resolution=1024x768 16 bit

Run sax2
Go to monitor and click on properties and then 'expert' tab to enter
'Check desktopGeometry' values as (X-310, Y-230). And also go to 'Colour
and Resolution' to change colour bit and resolution to resolution=1024x768 16 bit. Save and exit
'sax2'. Reboot system or restart X server.

The problem is that the moment I run sax2, the computer screen turns black and I can't do anything except re-start it
