xmame/snes9x/gameboy using ATI RADEON 9000 PRO in Slackware 9.1

I've been trying to play emulated games with my niece in slack 9.1 I am able to play games with xmame.x11 and under all other emulators but NOT fullscreen. IF i enable DGA in my /etc/X11/XF86Config file my screen goes black and then my monitor turns off. Then I gotta reboot :-/

In xmame.SDL for example i do get fullscreen without DGA but the emulated game looks chopped off in diagonal squares. I can play the game and I can hear sound...but I cannot SEE the game :-/ In xmame.x11 with DGA enabled i get the same results as above: garbled diagonal squares across the screen.

I get the same results with gameboy advance and snes9x and zsnes if DGA is enabled. Without DGA i can maximize the screen but only in xmame.11. Gameboy advance doesn't have that option..

What can I do to correct this DGA garbled issue? Is this a XFree86Config issue? or a video card issue with ATI propietary driver (fglrx)? Do I need to enable some module in my current 2.4.22 kernel?

Any input would be enormously appreciated. Thank u. :-)

DGA? look through your XfreeConfig file.. there is an ATI option about this... don';t know if that will help you or not..USE XV first... DGA as a last resort

When playing mame stuff I use XV mode for fullscreen and for window..

ie options -x11 2 -x11 3

XV mode should be pretty darn near as fast if not faster .... and is ALOT more stable

XV mode also provides hardware scaling... *(you can make your game window any size without suffering any performance)

That should fix your problem in both emualtors... hopefully gameboy supports XV..

Cheers,

Gary

Thanks Gary, I recompiled xmame.x11 and now I get fullscreen with XV extensions (I had to make some modifications to the makefile.unix). Unfortunately, SDL fullscreen doe not work...YET. Gameboy Advance uses SDL and whenever I request fullscreen I get diagonal squares across the screen like I mentioned before. SNES9x works wonderfully with XV extensions. Now I need to find out why SDL cannot give me a 'proper' fullscreen.

This is a major improvement. My niece thanks you and wishes you a Happy New Year. Thanks again..

P.S. I use gxmame as the frontend. It works nice..but somehow when I click on properties of a game it will not save it (like using a joystick for example). Time to check FAQ and e-mail the appropiate forum.
