ATI Radeon 9000 pro and SB Live! drivers on Slackware 10

ok, so after figuring out the dual boot process between linux and windows, i have a second problem thrown at me: drivers.

Ati has drivers for linux, but the ones i have truied to use, have come up with failed dependencies. like the title suggests, i'm running Slackware 10, anyone else had this problem with this version? if so, what did you do to fix it??? im not in linux riight now, but if needed i can provide the error message.

the second driver problem i am having is the one with my sound card, anyone know where i can get Linux drivers for a creative SB live!, creative doesnt have any.

thanks,
Ab2

afaik, Slack 10 uses X.org 6.8, which means, that you cannot rely on ATI's proprietary drivers - you must use X.org's instead until ati makes it to release XFree 4.4 compatible drivers. Use "ati" for driver specification. To make me sure whether this is your problem, post your error message, plase.

For your SBLive (which model, revision?) I suggest to use OSS since the older Creative cards do not comply with ALSA's matrix... Thats another reason why I bought a Terratec Aureon last week

Yep. Ati really screwed drivers this time and they have bad driver support for Linux anyway. I have already dropped trying to set my 9000 pro to have direct rendering. After 2 week of trials and errors perhaps we have to just wait for new ATI driver release.
