XFX GeForce 7300LE isn't doing what I want it to.

Just got my XFX GeForce 7300LE graphics card today, and when I installed it, I knew I would have to change a few things.

However, it really doesn't want to work with the right drivers or a the right resolution.
It uses an NVIDIA chipset, but works on the ati drivers, (not functioning on nv)
also, it seems to not want to do resolutions above 1024x768@75Hz.
Every time I try to get it to run at 1280x1024@60Hz, my monitor just gives an out-of-range error.

Before you ask, yes, the monitor does support 1280x1024"60Hz. I know, because that's the resolution I have it running on using the built in graphics chip.

(Currently I have it running satisfactorily with the KNOPPIX CD. but I had to mess about with the resolution settings to get it to work. (It doesn't like the standard resolution. More out-of-range errors.)

Have you tried building a new config using the 'xorgconfig' command?

I have KDE back up, albeit at 1024x768. This'll do for me. (Until I get annoyed with everything being the wrong size, and try to change it.)
I'm going to try one more time to get it back to 1280x1024, if it doesn't work then I'll just leave it. For now...

I've tried to use dpkg-reconfigure to change it from the vesa drivers that it's running on (I don't know where I pulled ati from. duh.)

Unfortunately, even with all the other settings as before I just get this error while running startx

Sorted.
Read the error messages more carefully, and found that it will not work if I select kernel framebuffer while using dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

So now I have my normal screen resolution back. (And there was much rejoicing)
Unfortunately, I still have to deal with my keyboard being set to some strange layout, with the '#' symbol above the three. (Which should be a pound symbol, but ah well.)
And the \ key producing '<' and [shift]+[\] giving '>'

Why, I do not know. But that's a problem for another day.
