What is a modem that works?

Hey guys, I've had it with my P.O.S winmodem, and all the config junk that I have to do. What is a good modem that will work without much (or any) configuration with Slack 10.1? How much would a nice modem run me too? -Bill

USR 5610b and USR 2977-oem both use the same driver rpm.since the driver was a beta in 2001,it may not be needed on a modern distro.
