western digital elements in Debian?

Is there any reason why would WD Elements Desktop external drive (http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=561) not work in Debian?

It says Windows® 2000/XP/Vista® or Mac® OS 10.3+ in requirements but I hope Debian won't have any problems.

running squeeze @ 2.6.26-i-1-686

Can you elaborate a bit on "not work"? Does the drive spin up and just isn't recognized? Or does it not spin up at all? Also, when you look at your syslog file, does the drive get recognized?

Does this thing have a separate power cord, or is it just powered over USB? If so, how old is your machine? Some older machines may not have enough juice out of the USB ports to run the drive.

Otherwise, from google it seems the drive works well for other people.

The thing is I haven't bought this drive yet I'm trying to find out if it works in Debian or not. I can't find anyone with this particular drive using Debian so I'm asking here.
My machine is Lenovo 3000 N200. Hardware side should be just fine. The compatibility might be an issue here.
thanks
