Video drivers anyone? For a Inspiron D530

Ive googled quite a bit and haven't found much.
Im looking for the correct video driver for the Dell Inspiron D530 desktop.

The graphics chip is an Intel GMA 3100.
The flat screen monitor is a Dell S199WFP

Thanks in advance

Try this command for more info:
'lspci -vvv'

Intel has excellent support in Linux,
the issue could be your flat panel.

Command #'xorgconfig' can be used to
set up X.
I recommend option 6, "noninterlaced"
for the monitor.

If you prefer a graphical tool
you can make an /etc/X11/xorg.conf
with a live cd. "PCLOSminime" can do
it and save it to USB.
If asked, choose generic flat panel
for monitor.

Good Luck !

Ill give it a try,

Maybe I am spoiled using the Nvidia driver for my laptop. It is easy to change resolution.

This is for my kids computer using slack 12.
I installed a game for them that has a video issue.
The screen goes blank every time they try to run the game called warzone2100.

I was thinking I was going to have to change the xorg.conf but I was hoping for a similar video driver to the one on my laptop.

I do not understand what you mean by,
Quote:
"PCLOSminime" can do
it and save it to USB.

Thanks

If you are not familiar with # 'xorgconfig'
( Some practice is required ) it is possible
to use an xorg.conf from another distro (and
modify it to fit) Hence the info about the
live distro mentioned.

But if it is only one game, the problem may
be elsewhere.

Please show video/vga result from 'lspci -vvv'
if you have further questions.
Some Intel graphics are pretty fast, but not
as speedy as Nvidia.

Regards
