I have kinda 2 question that are related.
1) How can i find out what video card i am using, like is there console command or a file to look at?
2) When i had WinXP Installed on the same computer i am running linux on now, i had the default resolution of 1024x768, now i can only run 800x600 in linux. I have edited my XF86Config file and set it to run 1024x768 but it doesnt work
Thanks for any help in advance!!!
Ok here is the part of my XF86Config file i have the resolution set to first 1024x768 and then 800x600, but it cant run 1024x768 i guess, since it only displays 800x600.
Well try this. goto /var/log, open up the XFree86.log file
your system should recognize it, and will print it on this file. At least mine knows that I have a Geforce2 GTS chip in the board and how much memory is available....32 megs DDR
I know that both support 1024x768 so im not sure why it wont load that resolution and only goes 800x600. Do you think i would need drivers or something for my Voodoo2?
I got a different monitor and added the horiz and vert refresh rates to the XF86Config but it didnt help, though it worked before with Slack 8.1. Here is my new XF86Config:
