using lm_sensors and ibm workstations?

i'm curious if anyone has successfully used lm_sensors on ibm workstations, in particular the M Pro model 6889. I am aware of the problems with lm_sensors corrupting the bios on some thinkpads, and the lm_sensors documentation recommends against using it on ANY ibm until they determine if other systems are affected, but it would be really nice to be able to keep tabs on what's going on.

TIA
