Using ITE 8212 PCI IDE Controller

Hi Guys,

See bottom of post for system spec.

I recently bought an ITE 8212 PCI IDE Controller in an effort to get my DVD burner off the same channel as by DVD ROM to improve on-the-fly copying. Problem is that I can't see the DVD Burner on the controller.

I dual boot with XP and it picked up the controller no problem. I'm not too familiar with when linux searches the PCI bus but this is the only relevant info I can find in the boot.msg log:

<6>Uniform Multi-Platform E-IDE driver Revision: 7.00alpha2
<6>ide: Assuming 33MHz system bus speed for PIO modes; override with idebus=xx
<6>VP_IDE: IDE controller at PCI slot 0000:00:11.1
<6>VP_IDE: chipset revision 6
<6>VP_IDE: not 100%% native mode: will probe irqs later
<6>VP_IDE: VIA vt8235 (rev 00) IDE UDMA133 controller on pci0000:00:11.1
<6> ide0: BM-DMA at 0xe400-0xe407, BIOS settings: hda:DMA, hdb:pio
<6> ide1: BM-DMA at 0xe408-0xe40f, BIOS settings: hdc:DMA, hdd:pio
<4>hda: MAXTOR 6L040J2, ATA DISK drive
<4>ide0 at 0x1f0-0x1f7,0x3f6 on irq 14
<4>hdc: LITEON DVD-ROM LTD-165H, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive
<4>ide1 at 0x170-0x177,0x376 on irq 15
<4>hda: max request size: 128KiB
<6>hda: 78177792 sectors (40027 MB) w/1819KiB Cache, CHS=65535/16/63, UDMA(33)
<6> hda: hda1 hda2 hda3 < hda5 >

This suggests to me that Linux is not finding the controller. Is that correct?

I have found a lot of people on the net saying that they have had problems getting this controller to work under Linux but no clear solutions. Any ideas? Anyone out there got it working successfully? All help is greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Dave
