I need to use different monitors on my system, same base, same graphics (nvdia), with debian lenny but plugged into different monitors. Problem is even thought "technically" the monitors are the same type (not brand) some work, some flicker, some give a blank screen. Can anyone help out? Even pressing alt+f1 etc won't give me console?
Most likely the monitors use different horizontal and vertical refresh rates, and the xorg.conf settings you are using for monitor "A" are not completely compatible with monitor "B", even though the 2 monitors may support the same resolution, are the same physical size, etc. What the exact monitors you are using (make/model)
Also, check that the video cables are securely connected and that the monitors are turned on. I'm embarrassed to say that I once personally wasted 2+ hours "diagnosing" a similar problem, which was the result of my video cable being unattached. D'oh!!
