usb devices not detected ubuntu lxde

To whom it may concern,

I need help with my usb devices on ubuntu with lxde as my desktop manager. Whenever I plug in my usb flash drive or my memory card adapter they are not detected. If you can help me I will provide any kind of information needed to solve the problem, just tell me what command to run. Also my cd/dvd drive is still not being detected or is mislabeled on ubuntu 10.04 lucid lynx. I will also provide whatever info you need to help me with either problems. I am a noob and need help. Thank you for your time and patience.

The instructions on ubunutgeek.com don't seem to work. My device is detected, but I think it is not mounted or not identified correctly. Here is the device:

Bus 001 Device 005: ID 0781:5406 SanDisk Corp. Cruzer Micro 1/2/4GB Flash Drive

When you plug the usb device in the port, can you see it listed in PCMan file manager, on the left side?

I'm using Mandriva with LXDE and I can see my usb thumb drive listed. Once I click it, it opens and I can see the files.

What happens when you type the mount command? When I type it, it show this in a terminal:

Code:
/dev/sdb1 on /media/Crucial type fuseblk (rw,nosuid,nodev,allow_other,blksize=4096)
