Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Upgrading laptop graphics card/motherboard?

Alright, my laptop is enough to run Doom 3 except for the graphic card- it has that Intel Media Accelerator thing on it, which I'm sure won't cut it. Is there a way to upgrade the graphics card on my laptop? Failing that, can I replace the motherboard? I don't really want to shell out a grand for a new laptop just for a graphics card.

Alienware use to make laptops that have removeable graphics cards for upgrade-ability. Assuming that your graphics are onboard, you'll have to replace the motherboard. Going that route, you'll need to find a new motherboard which will fit your laptop's case. Odds are there are few that would fit. Odds are you could do it in this type of senario.

Current machine: HP 2100
New Motherboard: HP 2150

Since they would be the same series, I would bet the motherboards will fit. Can't guarentee it though.
