Tv Tuner Card

I bought a NEXUS-s Version 2.2. How can I get it to work on Debian Sarge with Kernel 2.6.11 with plain old Antenna reception? I'd like to use kdetv to watch TV with if possible.

I found this information about the card:

features: decoder, partialts
card driver: dvb-ttpci
interface: PCI
PCI device id: 1131:7146
PCI subsystem id: 13c2:0003
Bridge: Philips SAA7146A
audio DAC: Crystal CS4341
frontend possibility 1:
tin box: ALPS BSRU6
frontend driver: stv0299
demodulator location: tin box
demodulator: ST stv0299b @0x68
PLL: Philips tsa5059 @0x61
Notes: This card has the same PCI ID as the other rev2.X DVB-S c

I ran "modprobe dvb-ttpci" and there were no errors, what do I do next? I have kdetv and xawtv both installed, but I can't see any channel list... I'm new to this. Thanks.

Firstly I'm not familiar with Debian Sarge or a Linux TV expert but here goes

Is this your card "WinTV-Nexus-s (=Technotrend Premium 2.1 or 2.2)"

If so the driver should be "bttv" Information from Here

Try as root

# modprobe bttv

Then still as root check

# lspci (may need to use sbin/lspci)

Here's mine

Here's mine

Dah! WolfCub's card uses the SAA7146 chip not bttv chip which WolfCub said in the first post.

WolfCub, you have to make sure DVB support is included in the kernel. Make sure you select all dvb cards as modules including the ones under SAA7146. Sorry, I can not help you because dvb cards are for only uk and I do not get satellite.

I already have all that stuff in my kernel. I noticed these lines in dmesg:

dvb-ttpci: could not load firmware, file not found: dvb-ttpci-01.fw
dvb-ttpci: usually this should be in /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware
dvb-ttpci: and can be downloaded here http://www.linuxtv.org/download/dvb/firmware/

However I do not know which file to download. Also, I live in Canada and plan to receive Antenna TV with this card, is that possible?

I put all the dvb-ttpci-01.fw files in /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware and it still doesn't work.

It is recommended that you use the newest firmware binary
compatible with your driver. If you use the hotplug firmware loader
in Linux 2.6 you must put the firmware file in
/lib/firmware/dvb-ttpci-01.fw (in previous versions of the Linux
hotplug scripts it was /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware/dvb-ttpci-01.fw).
This is from here http://www.linuxtv.org/download/dvb/firmware/

So as you are using a 2.6.11 Kernel should'nt you put them in /lib/firmware/dvb-ttpci-01.fw

I'm also out of my depth, just trying to help

Update: after I put the firmware files in /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware, I get this when running tvtime:

debian:~# tvtime
Running tvtime 0.9.15.
Reading configuration from /etc/tvtime/tvtime.xml
Reading configuration from /root/.tvtime/tvtime.xml
videoinput: Can't get tuner info: Invalid argument
videoinput: Can't get tuner info: Invalid argument
videoinput: Can't mute card. Post a bug report with your
videoinput: driver info to http://tvtime.net/
videoinput: Include this error: 'Invalid argument'
videoinput: Can't mute card. Post a bug report with your
videoinput: driver info to http://tvtime.net/
videoinput: Include this error: 'Invalid argument'
Thank you for using tvtime.
debian:~#

Also, every other TV viewer doesn't work either so something still isn't working right.

Try as normal user

Yeah I am running as root. All the TV programs fail to receive a signal though so I'm doubting that they're not working because I'm root. I'll create a non-root user and test just to be sure though...

EDIT: running as a non-root user gives a whole load of permission problems, I set this up as a desktop with only one user, me-- root. I really don't want to be bothered to fix the non-root user's problems, because I'm fairly certain that the problem doesn't relate to me being root. And please, don't give me the generic response about how it's wrong to run as root all the time

OK I give up... what's the easiest TV tuner to get to work? I'll send this beast back and go buy it. Doesn't nVidia make one? I need a really easy to use one that works with NTSC or whatever North America uses, and it's got to be good quality. Thanks.

I have a LifeView FlyVideo 3000FM. It works well. The video and sound quality is excellent. The Platinum version works with all TV broadcasts. Though it is only analog so you will need a converter box.

A post on http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/board/showthread.php?t=681 may help.
Some deeper instructions go to http://www.nr.no/~oka/linux/DVB/.

For 2.6.x kernels it said put the firmware file in /lib/firmware/dvb-ttpci-01.fw.

Ok, is there a Linux compatible card that has the converter or whatever built in so I can easily watch analog TV? I just wanna get this to work and I have no problem returning it if it wont be easy to make work.
