TV out - Works up until X loads

Running RH8 with a ATI Rage 128 AGP... has both svga and rca out...

upon fire up, if i have the rca plugged in rather the svga, it boots up on the tv just fine.. as a matter of fact, it's perfect with out ANY software modding up until X loads... i have it set at 640x480... but somethings telling me I need to further modify the X conf eh?

If anyone could point me in the right direction, that'd be most excellent!

Ben.

Hey Ben!, that's my problem too

I have an ATI Rage Fury Pro, with both the Svideo out and the composite out as well (RCA). The only way I have "successfully" gotten video out to my TV was with Mplayer. I use the -vo vesa option and it sends the signal to the TV; however the problem is that after it does the movie playback, it simply returns me back to a black screen after, at which time I have to reboot, remove the plug from the back of the TV (so the VESA doesn't get detected) and then everything goes fine from there.

The latest problem with that I have run into was FB, or framebuffering. It would start out just fine, give me the BIOS boot, then as soon as Linux would start, the TV would go blank, and my monitor would give me the "out of Range" screen. I re-modified my kernel a pinch, and now it's running great, but still get the black screen and a reboot after each movie.

Anyway, I hope this at least helps you to a point, knowing that you could use mplayer for it... And that there is someone else in this situation (and I have searched till my fingers bled, but to no avail as well). I have been contemplating getting a new card, something that has more support for things like this, but that's kinda sucky and pricey.

Cool

Mplayer

In redhat 8, it does not seem to come with any player so I tried to install Xine from sources.... to confusing for me at the time... so I tried Mplayer from sources... still confused.

but as soon as I make sense of the messy installs and all the dependencies i will give it a shot

My main goal with TV out is to plug it into the widescreen to play Quake3 mmmmmmmmmm

BTW, Have you heard of the Freevo project? you may be interested.

Thank you very much for that link, but I have a question...

I might be missing something, but it says "just about any" card is supported....

Nevermind, I will give it a try and let you know how things go.

And again, thanks for the link.

Cool
