same problem in SUSE 11.0 however touch pad works fine in Mandriva 2008.1 One edition
I had a similar problem in Mandriva 2008.1 when I upgraded the bios on my XPS 1530 from A07 to A08. This was solved by adding the following parameter to file /boot/grub/menu.lst, see steps below;
edit file /boot/grub/menu.lst
- add the following parameter to the line starting with kernel kernel ............ i8042.nomux=1
e.g. see below:
title linux
kernel (hd0,4)/boot/vmlinuz BOOT_IMAGE=linux root=UUID=c08e84da-01aa-4d6c-b398-1471175ea062 resume=/dev/sda7 splash=silent vga=788 i8042.nomux=1
I did the same in SUSE 11.0. This stopped the cursor from madly jumping all over the place, but now it very slow and has small delays before it even starts moving, when using the touch pad.
The only I have found to solve this is by plugging in a USB mouse. Then the cursor behaves normal in SUSE 11.0.
The fix by changing menu.lst does work for Mandriva 2008.1. Mandriva 2008.1 One works very well on my Dell XPS 1530 and I have no problems with my touch pad.
Hope this helps a little.

Ronnie
