Strange cdrom problem

I have the strangest problem ever. I'm trying to install Slackware on a laptop. I went into the bios and chose the cdrom as the first boot device, then restarted. The laptop checks the cd, but then it won't boot from it, as if the cd is not bootable. I know that the cd is bootable because my other computer will boot from it. Also my Mandrake cd will boot fine in my laptop. What could be the problem and how do I solve it?
