Sound won't work after upgrading FC3 kernel

I just recently upgraded my FC3 kernel to the latest version (using the Smart Package Manager), and now it seems that my sound won't work at all. lspci can see the sound card (it's an Intel integrated HDAC), but alsaconf can't anymore. It took some time for me to get the sound working in the first place (before I upgraded), so I think maybe the kernel installer overwrote something I'd tweaked, but I can't remember what exactly I changed to fix it.

Here's the output from lspci |grep Audio:
00:1b.0 Class 0403: Intel Corp. 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 03)

And here's the output from alsamixer:
alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such device

alsaconf simply says that no sound cards are found, as does system-config-soundcard.

Any help would be appreciated!

You are probably missing a driver. Try recompiling the kernel or building the module for your sound card. Use DrOzz's tutorial if you are new to this.

Additional info - sometimes when I try to modprobe snd-intel8x0 I get this error:

FATAL: Module off not found.
WARNING: Error running install command for snd_pcm

edit: oh, I had to *completely* rebuild the sound driver from scratch, AND pass the configure script the name of my kernel source directory! Let's see if that fixes it....
