I recently upgraded to kernel 2.6.8 and am unable to get sound working. When I start X I am given the error message that "Device /dev/dsp can't be opened." The device does not exist. In kernel 2.4 I was using the snd-atiixp module for ALSA, which worked fine. When I compiled 2.6.8, I chose to compile the driver into the kernel. Now, when i run alsaconf, it is unable to find any devices. I can't reinstall the ALSA drivers because the sound is built in. How do I get this built-in sound working correctly?
the name of the drivers have changed in kernel 2.6 for many things, when iupgrded from 2.4 to 2.6
mine sound drivers name have chnaged ,,so u need to lookout what is the name of the sound drivers u r using from the kernel configuraton(lookout in make xconfig, there se the listing if ur drivers and see what is its name, after it is compiled)
and load that.or edit the /etc/modprobe.conf
also does mandrake 10 not have a 2.6 kernel also???
