Sound problems

here is the problem.

I have an intel JN440BX motherboard. It has Crystal audio onboard sound. Can not get it to work. I dual boot into win2k and it works fine there. I am pretty sure I should be using the i810_audio driver.
I type in modprobe i810_audio and here is what I get:

/lib/modules/2.4.20/kernel/drivers/sound/i810_audio.o: init_module: No such device
/lib/modules/2.4.20/kernel/drivers/sound/i810_audio.o: Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg
/lib/modules/2.4.20/kernel/drivers/sound/i810_audio.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.20/kernel/drivers/sound/i810_audio.o failed
/lib/modules/2.4.20/kernel/drivers/sound/i810_audio.o.gz:

So I went to my syslog and found this.

Aug 10 11:31:36 jamey modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module sound-slot-0
Aug 10 11:31:36 jamey modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate
module sound-service-0-0

Any ideas would be greatly appriciated.

Try (you may need to be root) :

$ lspci

to see weather your sound device is actually "there" at all, and does /dev/dsp or /dev/mixer, etc... exist?

check you /usr/lib/modules adn the proper subdirectories to see if the module is built. if its not then you need to enable/build it in your kernel.
