Sound no workie

For a long time, I had been using a USB sound device - the Lexicon Alpha. It's worked great for the most part, and I never had to worry about drivers with Linux. Then, I started having weird audio conflicts when booting into Windows. To skip these conflicts, I decided to go back to traditional sound devices.

So, I've got my HDMI cable going into my monitor and I have the audio outputs going from my monitor to an amplifier. This worked exactly as expected when booting into Windows.

So that was done and I booted into Fedora 16. Now I have no sound. I tried watching video in a couple of players, but no sound. I put on a radio stream in XMMS so I could have constant sound. In KMix, I can select "GF104 High Definition Audio Controller Digital Stereo (HDMI)" for the master channel.

This HDMI device shows up in "playback devices" and in Phonon. No matter what I do - no sound comes out.

How can I troubleshoot this?

Update:

Ok, I went through this: http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showth...highlight=hdmi

It at least got me to get sound via Alsa, but I still can't get Pulseaudio to work.

I'm going to be upgrading Fedora by next December anyway, but I'd love to find a solution to this.

Ok, I got my sound to work.

I'm not exactly sure WHAT I did to fix it, but I found this: http://nixos.org/wiki/Audio_HOWTO

I followed that - most of which was already configured. But it still wouldn't work until the section where you check your system settings and specify the device you want to use in Phonon. Before, I would select this device and test - and it wouldn't work. Now, it magically does.

Go fish.
