sound from line-in or mic does not output to speaker

I'm trying to get my Sound Blaster Audigy 2 to output mic and line-in inputs but it's not working. I've looked at alsamixer and everything is in the mic/line-in category is unmuted and turned WAY up.

Is there something that I'm missing? I think I need to check a file or something...sound cards are not my forte.

thanks!
