Sound and wireless not working after reboot (sometimes)

I'm running Ubuntu 9.04, and occasionally (though not always) when I turn my computer on it will hang at the splash screen with the progress bar at about 10% or so. This will stay motionless for about a minute or so, before booting as normal, but when it gets to the desktop, the Volume Applet is muted, and the NetWorkManager Applet shows no wireless network capability at all. There isn't just no wireless networks, but when I click on the applet, it doesn't even say "Wireless Network". Usually just rebooting will work fine. The splash screen will load through quickly, and everything will work.

I have saved the output from dmesg from one of these times, and compared it to a saved dmesg from when things loaded fine.

I have onboard sound and a PCI wireless card, that uses the module rt61pci. I have looked through the dmesg logs, and found that, at least for the wireless card, these lines occurred

When failed...
[ 8.527141] rt61pci 0000:04:00.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 20 (level, low) -> IRQ 20
[ 68.552091] rt61pci 0000:04:00.0: PCI INT A disabled
[ 68.552097] rt61pci: probe of 0000:04:00.0 failed with error -110

When fine
[ 7.605128] rt61pci 0000:04:00.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 20 (level, low) -> IRQ 20
[ 7.729486] Registered led device: rt61pci-phy0:radio
[ 7.729510] Registered led device: rt61pci-phy0:assoc
[ 20.460188] rt61pci 0000:04:00.0: firmware: requesting rt2561.bin

Also, for the sound I found this line
[ 68.764371] HDA Intel: probe of 0000:00:1b.0 failed with error -16
which only occurred when the sound didn't work.

So, this is as far as I've gotten, but what can I do when this happens next?

Thank you.
