SM56 fax modem problems

Hi
I just istalled Red Hat 9 and am having trouble getting my motorolla sm56 fax modem working, linux wont detect it, it found all of my other hardware and installed the drivers just fine this is the only thing that isnt working.
I have a dell dimesion 8100 with petium 4 1300 mghtz 640 mb ram dual partitioned hard drive with linux and win 98 any advice will be most appreicated thanks.

Sounds like a winmodem, they require windoze to work. I have never had one of those things but I have read where some get them to work with Linux. Some seem to work pretty good while others tend to make the person in the chair . . . . upset. I think I can safely say that.
