I've been setting up a box to work as a server (stick in closet and run unattended) here at home and all goes well except for a small 'issue' which I don't really understand.

In testing the system I found that if I issue a shutdown from my client X window the system actually restarts and comes backup again only if I do not have a keyboard and mouse plugged in.

Initially Kudzu was causing me some grief so I tuned that off, but now when observing with a monitor on the server it boots cleanly and shuts down cleanly (even powering down the box powersupply). Just not without that keyboard and mouse.

Now, certainly I'll just leave them plugged in if there is no other solution, but why I'm asking here is "does anyone know or suspect why this is?"

It could be some power management setting in the BIOS, maybe?
