Serial scan kills mouse (?!)

... you're all so helpful it makes me just wanna ask more questions

I use an optical USB Logitech mouse and during Mandrake's boot process, its light flickers and goes off. I cant use it in KDE/etc and Linux refuses to recognise it. The same happened when I was installing Mandrake, when it was entering the second installation stage and probing the serial ports. Could this scan be turning my mouse off? Which bootup option do I change?

Thanks in advance

But also after installing it seem that enter into configuration tools cause also a freeze of the mouse.

I'm using Microsoft Intellimouse Optical on USB port

Any help, thanks

You'll need to edit the pointer section of your XF86Config(-4) by hand in a text editor.
This Microsoft Intellimouse link is a good start.

thanks very much!
I actually fixed the problem by installing a different mandrake kernel
The default kernel with mandrake 9 isnt actually too great with handling keyboard input (or mice!) I'm not sure why it _is_ the default ...
