second hard drive for linux

Hi, I am currently taking a linux class in college, I would like to install linux on my computer, would it be better to install it on a second hard drive or use a virtual pc program? I do not want to attempt a dual boot with linux. Thanks for any suggestions you can give.

I suggest installing it on a second drive. Virtual install may be good if you have a lot of RAM (or need to use another system at the same time).
