Rep:
/sbin/modprobe hates my NIC
Dear all. i am typing this on ubuntu 9.04-beta because i couldn't wait for the real one. this ubuntu and 8.10 doesnt mind my network card on my toshiba satellite L300, however i have installed ubuntu 8.04 with an rtai kernel for EMC2 to control my cnc machine. ubuntu 8.04 will not boot when i have the network card enabled in the bios, and i get a line at boot saying
/sbin/modprobe: abnormal exit
it then displays two usb init lines and hangs.
I am looking for a solution to this by either not loading the ethernet module on ubuntu 8.04 so i can run EMC with no network or a way to fix modprobe. i dont want to have to go into the bios every boot and enable/disable the ethernet, so a solution would be gratefully accepted
thank you for your time
regards
james
