Redhat8 but no internet connection

I've had redhat8 non my dualboot for a while but havent gotten into it becuase I cant setup a internet connection

my first problem was I had a 'winmodem' and I coudlnt install the drivers so I bought a cheap externerl modem
a
Data/FaX/Voice modem 56k, V.90,k56TM
FCC no - H52PT-3020

so I set them up and it hangs for ages and then it says connection activated only for me to go into Mozzila or another ' application that reuqires a net connection and it tells me it cant connect ...

Im really kinda peved and would love to be bale to surf the net in redhat so I could learn more about linux at the moemnt im limited to playing around in Shells..

If anyone can help me It'd be greatly appreciated

You need to find the IRQ and first I/O address of the device from the /proc/pci file and then use setserial to configure the serial port. Have you done this yet?

Standard Linux Serial Ports:
PC Port Linux Port
Com1 ttyS0
Com2 ttyS1
Com3 ttyS2
Com4 ttyS3

Login as root to determine settings used by the modem by typing the command: cat /proc/pci. Look for your modem vendor in the line "Communication Controller:...." and hopefully it is there. There will be an IRQ number assigned to the device, write that down. There will be a line "Non-prefetchable 32 bit memory...."
Write down the first I/O address. (e.g. I/O at 0x4800)

Depending on the port that the modem in on, type the command:
setserial /dev/ttySx uart 16550A port y irq z, where x is the port the modem is using, y is the I/O address, and z is the IRQ.

e.g. setserial /dev/ttyS0 uart 16550A port 0x4800 irq 10

I have used kppp which I like a lot to finish the modem setup. Run kppp at the command line and hopefully everything is clear from there.

The prob may be the irq settings of ur modem .. try changing the irq settnigs in ur bios for the modem. if the previous soln doesnt work.

u have gui tools to probe the modem ..
use kpp , set hte device to /dev/ttyS0 or ttyyS1 and query modem ..it must detect the modem ...
