putting out the trash

Hi, this may seem a silly question, but how do I get rid of the trash on my 2GB usb stick? There is a hidden folder, .Trash-500, it seems to contain the files deleted on the stick. But I can't delete it. Emptying the trash on the computer does not affect what is on the stick.

Do I have to reformat to get rid of it? The stick is probably windows format as a windows machine can read it. I use Fedora 15.

try to format it in fat32. However you can skip trash by deleting files with shift+del keystroke.
