Printer support under Suse 9.0

I'm running Suse 9.0 with an HP Deskjet 932c printer. Yast detects the printer fine, but when I hit test nothing comes out. I've got ink, and paper. The printer worked just a few weeks ago when I still had Windows installed so I know it's a Suse related problem. Is there a way to fix this?

Also ~ Will Suse automatically detect a printer if it's parallel?

Have you tried using a different driver? Yast usually gives you a choice of 2 or 3.

It lists the different printer models as drivers...so there's hundreds to choose from. Can you specify what you meant?

Mmm. You're quite right - it's Mandrake that offers different drivers for each printer.
Is Cups running? Open ksysguard and see if it's listed. If it is running, try the Cups www interface - http://localhost:631/ in a web browser. See what information it gives you about your printer, and maybe try a test page from there.

Hi,
I faced a similar problem... What alternative driver did I choose? Well, the one with the name closest to the one that was supposed to work!
Yes, this isn't a "best practice", but it worked ;-)

Hmph. No luck. The CUPs website just gave me a list of all the people connected on the LAN and their printers. Although that's a fun thing when you can print out test pages from a mile away...

Still no go on my printer though.

Arg ~ My main issue is that it's spontaneous. Yesterday I reinstalled LPRing and it worked, and then I printed out a few things successfully and when I tried printing like a 3rd or 4th thing it just stopped. Another day of this and the printer's going out the windowwwwwwww

Talking out loud here... The printer is supported according to the Suse hardware database. It worked once or twice through Cups, so the problem might be a glitch that puts the printer in as loop waiting for something that will never come, stopping all further printing. Did you try to do a cold boot to see if it will print again? If so, it is a bad install somehow of a driver or cups I'd guess.

I'm trying on SuSE 9.1 Personal and it's also screwed up. I tried with YaST, I got the driver, selected the correct USB port, clicked "Test Connection"... and nothing. I've tried configureing it both with YaST and with KDE Control Panel, and it didn't work either time. I didn't even get the light flashing on the printer. Unlike you, I have had no success, not one single page has come out of that printer since SuSE 9.1. Although... I had it working on Redhat 9. Can anyone who has it tell what drive you have?
