PC stopped printing

The other afternoon while working my printer simply stopped printing. I checked out the printer with another PC and it is OK. So the problem is my work PC. How can I find the problem, whether it is hardware or software? What should I look for? I am running Mint 19.3 on a Lenovo Thinkcentre.

Your PC's harware: check.
Your PC's operating system: check.
The type of printer: failed to mention.

Some printer manufacturers, like HP, provide their own utility for linux, and you should use their utility for diagnostics.

Others rely on CUPS.

Make sure the user on your linux computer who you want to be able to print is a member of the group "lp"

You can access CUPS from your browser, http://localhost:631 and from there check the printer to see what if any error it is reporting. Might be a job stuck in the queue expecting different paper or something like that.

Well, thanks. I repeat, it is just as if I pulled the USB cord. There does not seem anything for the printer to respond to. It works very well on another PC, so the problem is in my home computer. I went to CUPS as uteck recommended, and it says the printer is not enabled. But in Control Center/Printers it says it is enabled. My lack of experience does not tell me what kind of checks I could make on the PC.

I would trust what CUPS says about the printer more then the Control Center, so try enabling it in CUPS. Control Center may not be reading CUPS properly.

Back to it after a long weekend. uteck recomends enabling the printer in CUPS. I am afraid that I am blank on that one. Where and how do you do it? The printer itself is working great. It is just that my compu does not talk to it.

And we are blank on things too; post #2 said you failed to tell us what kind of printer this is. You *STILL* do not tell us, and the only reason we know it's connected via USB is the fact you alluded to it in your post.

You also don't tell us (since this is a USB printer) how it's being shared with other printers, or tell us what changed on your system. If you don't know how to enable a printer in CUPS, did you look for any solutions?? The cupsenable command would be one of them.

Well the printer is a HP Laserjet Pro M203dw. I only use it on my work position. I was working and it just stopped printing. When I try the printer on another computer it works fine so it is not the problem. Nothing changed on my system, no system updates.
I must confess that I am 89 years old and am pretty slow on handling new things. "Enable a printer in CUPS" sound good, but I just don't know where to start. I tried cupsenable as TB10ne suggested, but nothing changed.

In your web browser enter the cups printers web page
Click on your printer's queue and look at its status. Does it show the printer as idle, accepting jobs?

Under Jobs are there held jobs stuck in the queue?

If all that looks ok try printing a test page. Click on the maintenance pull down menu and select "Print Test Page"
What happens?

Again, saying you use it "on my work position" doesn't tell us anything. We finally have the model number of the printer, but you allude to having two computers...and still tell us nothing about how the printer is shared/connected. Is this shared over the network?

And if it just 'stopped working', something CAUSED it to stop...if you had no system updates and no system changes, that only leaves a hardware problem. Since you ostensibly moved the printer to another computer and it worked, that would rule out the printer and cable, right?? Which leaves the hardware on your 'work position' computer...did you try moving it to another USB port?? And you say you tried cupsenable...how about telling us what you actually typed in, and what the result of that command was?? Did you read the man page on that command? https://www.man7.org/linux/man-pages...senable.8.html

You have to give it a printer name to enable.

Well, thanks TBOne, but I think I will let it rest for a bit.
