On_board sound card it is not recognized by Debian
Hi Guys!
I'm having some trouble in my pc. That's the scenario:
I have a Asus K8V-VM mobo and the audio on-bord is a Realtek AC'97;
I'm using Debian Sarge - kernel 2.6.8-2-386.
I've installed the Debian without problem but after I've installed the sound driver from the modo cd drivers the gnome does not entered anymore. It sends a message saying the libasound.so.2 file was not found.
After that I've checked by lspci that my sound device is not detected - just there is no any multimedia audio device in the list, just some unknowled devices.(that's why I don't post the lspci list here)
So I ask you: Who can I do? How can I make the linux recognize this device ?
Does the file show up if you do a 'locate libsound.so.2' ( with out the quotes ) ? If the system says your DB is over 8 days old, run as root 'updatedb' and then re-run the command.
hey!!
i have a similar problem but not exactly the same....actually my PC is based on asus P5RD2-VM mother board with realtek 8168/8100 lan card.....
recently i have installed fedora core 6 ....the prob is that it is not recognising the ethernet card.....

why should you want to install sarge at this time when etch is such a great OS? I have some pretty new hardware and sarge gave me nothing but issues (NIC, sound, video driver, etc etc); now etch recognizes each and every bit of hardware out of the box (with the exception of the video driver but that proved amazingly simple to install).
