No sound - i810 - Ac'97

I have a problem, there's no sound on my newly installed RH 8.0.
My machine is a Intel Pentium 4 (2.4 ghz), 512 ram, with an inbuilt soundcard, etc.

I ran /sbin/sndconfig, which detected my sound card as:

"A PCI sound card was found in your
system. The details are:
Model: Intel Corp.|82801DB A
"

While attempting to play a test sound (which I, of course, did not hear ) it output the following error:

"sound error: /lib/mode The following error occurred running the
modprobe program:
/lib/modules/2.4.18-14/kernel/drivers/sound/i810_audio.o:
init_module: No such device
/lib/modules/2.4.18-14/kernel/drivers/sound/i810_audio.o:
insmod /lib/modules/2.4.18-14/kernel/drivers/sound/i810_audio.o
failed
/lib/modules/2.4.18-14/kernel/drivers/sound/i810_audio.o:
# insmod sound-slot-0 failed
"

Furtheremore, I found this in the boot messages:

"Intel 810 + AC97 Audio, version 0.22, 13:45:06 Sep 4 2002
PCI: Found IRQ 3 for device 00:1f.5
PCI: Sharing IRQ 3 with 00:1f.3
PCI: Setting latency timer of device 00:1f.5 to 64
i810: Intel ICH4 found at IO 0xe080 and 0xe400, IRQ 3
i810_audio: Codec not ready.. wait.. no response.
i810_audio: Audio Controller supports 6 channels.
i810_audio: Defaulting to base 2 channel mode.
i810_audio: Primary codec not ready."

If its of any help, here's the output of '/sbin/lspci':

"00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corp. 82845G/GL [Brookdale-G] Chipset Host Bridge (rev 03)

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon VE QY
02:02.0 Modem: PCTel Inc HSP MicroModem 56 (rev 02)
"

Finall, the kernel version is 2.4.18-14

Any help on how to get sound working would be deeply appreciated.

Thanks, Ahsan

You'll most likely have to install the driver, libs, utils & tools from www.alsa-project.org for your sound card.
