I'm pretty new to linux but I've gotten it all setup and learned alot along the way so I'm somewhat proud of myself but I do have one problem. well, actually two but the other it seems everybody has. First off, my system: I have a Dell Inspiron 1100, 2.0 GHz PIV, 512 of RAM, CD-RW\DVD, i810 onboard video and sound card (AC'97). I'm running Slackware 9.1 and in order to get the sound card to work I had to upgrade to the 2.6.0 test 9 kernel and everything works except the line out. The built in speakers on my laptop work perfectly but the line out gives me absolutely nothing when plugged into speakers or headphones. I've gone into rexima and made sure all the sound levels are up and I'm out of ideas. Anybody have any ideas as to what I should try next?
The only other problem I have is that when I close the laptop's cover the screen dosen't go off and I honestly have no idea how to go about fixing that
If anybody has any insight to offer about either of the problems I'd be very thankful
1. Recompile everything, make sure you include the latest patches for ACPI, cpufreqd, acpid, and anything and everything else related to power management. THen make sure you read all the howto's, tutorials and documentation, so you can properly edit each individule config file to make sure it all works the way you want it to.
Option 2.
Install SuSE, use built-in preconfigured settings and gui changable power managament.
Option 3
Install Mandrake. Deal with things mostly working.
No worries, I have the exact same sound onboard card and it works well with my desktop computer
have you used alsaconf yet? slack 9.1 uses the alsa (not oss) sound modules so go into a terminal, type su (enter root password), type alsaconf and then go through the guide and follow all the directions
What's most likely happening is that the computer option for digital out is screwing up the line out. Aka, the headphone port doubles as a Digital Optical out, and without windows its confused and doesnt switch over when you plug something in...
